Exergy analysis has shown to be an efficient tool for process optimization and understanding. An exergy analysis has been made of the Akzo Nobel vinyl-chloride process at the Botlek using Aspen plus W The exergy content of the streams is calculated using ExerCom (licensed to Stork Comprimo B.V.) and processed using Turbo Basic routines and EXel 5.0. The results of this analysis are shown in an Exergy Flow diagram. The exergy content of the flows is represented by the width of streams.
