Abstract

This work focus on applications in which the energy consumption associated with the electronics for ultrasound transmission (TX) is also significant. We investigate an optimum trade-off between RX and TX electronics energy consumption in a single-element device that powers up, performs a pulse-echo measurement and powers down again. An example use case is an ultrasonic bladder monitor. To maximize battery life, energy per measurement in such a device needs to be minimized while achieving a desired SNR at a given imaging depth.
