Abstract

Contactless power transfer (CPT) is a safe, convenient and reliable way of transferring power in many applications where there exists no physical contact between the source and the load. In this paper, general design criteria are described for efficient power transfer in a CPT system. The need for compensation has been discussed and general conditions for achieving bifurcation-free operation for each compensation topologies have been derived. Advantages of using Series-Series compensated topology over other topologies are discussed. Constant current and constant voltage modes of operation of Series-Series topology and conditions for these modes of operation are presented. An experimental CPT setup is built to validate the theory developed.
