Abstract
The central point of the thesis is formulation and testing of a design method with a strong focus on the user activity and personal experience in the designed space. The design algorithm consists of a series of iterative steps based on architectural and sensorial sequences of activities.
The experimental method was tested in the process of re-designing an underperforming shopping mall in the city of Nijmegen. The new urban plan proposes a mix-use neighbourhood that is better connected with the existing city tissue. The main focus is the design of a Health Center that includes spaces for treatment as well as promotion of a healthy lifestyle. The new public building is created in the process of adaptive reuse of the existing structure.
