Abstract

The various aspects related to ubiquitous computing education, the center of attraction of the Ubicomp Education Workshop, are discussed. At the workshop, a small number of researchers and educators gathered to discuss how ubiquitous computing is taught at universities and defined the common themes and resources that can influence the future educational materials. It was suggested that students should be introduced to ways to gather information about the physical world and represent it in the virtual world. Ubiquitous computing encourages numerous modes of interaction, so students should understand both explicit interaction, such as speech, gestures, and writing, and implicit interaction, such as location and user activity.
