Abstract

Editor has been an officer position in the governing body of SEG since 1931, the year after the Society was founded. Establishment of the position preceded launch of the journal GEOPHYSICS by five years yet was established with such publication activity in mind. Thus, for most of the Society's history, the editor position on the Executive Committee was combined with the position of Editor in Chief (EIC) of GEOPHYSICS. Still today, the editor position is the channel through which publications are represented on the SEG Board of Directors. However, SEG publications have increased tremendously and have become widely diverse. Is the current model still the most effective model given these changes?
