(mentor) Degree granting institution Delft University of Technology Programme Aerospace Engineering | Structures and Materials Date 2018-01-29 Abstract Composites have been widely applied in current aerospace structures. In spite of various advantages that composites have, the sensitivity to the impact damage for the composite materials has become a severe threat to the structural integrity of aerospace structures. Therefore, this research work focuses on embedding metal layers in the composite materials (CFRP) in order to improve the impact resistance of conventional CFRP laminates under the low-velocity impact condition from both experimental and numerical points of view.
