The research done is part of a starting research project of Post Doctoral Researcher Fritjof Fagerlund which overall is supervised by Prof. Tissa Illangasekare. The internship is a mandatory 5 month course of 30 ects for the achievement of the Environmental Hydrogeology Master at Utrecht University. The main objective of this research is to gain a fundamental understanding of the physical and geochemical processes governing the migration and distribution of nanoiron particles in DNAPL contaminated zones in a porous medium. Through this research a better understanding of DNAPL targeting and the accompanied risks of using nanoiron particles for DNAPL source treatment will be assessed.
