Abstract

This thesis is aiming for proposing spatio-functional interventions, which facilitates the promotion of the socio-economic status of the deprived neighborhoods of Rotterdam South. According to the literature review and analysis in spatial, social and economical aspect, some patterns are proposed which are aiming for multi-scale and multi-layer interventions; different components of the urban fabric will be the area of intervene in a way to provide spaces for improving the skills and opportunities for socio-economic activities for the low-income and unemployed people living in Rotterdam South. This is done by considering the social context of these areas not as problems but as opportunities for starting up specific type of businesses like ethnic or social enterprises.
