Institution National Research Council Canada, National Aeronautical Establishment, Flight Research Section Date 1967-03-31 Abstract A theoretical model is developed ta describe the discharge of bulk waler from the tanks of a water bomber and its subsequent erosion into droplets . Equations are presented to enable the prediction of droplet cloud shapes and longitudinal ground distributions based on aircraft speed , tank geometry, and certain parameters of the erosion process. The theory is applied to two aircraft serving as water bombers, the Canso with two 400-gallon fuselage tanks and the Otter with two 120-gallon interior float tanks. Predicted tank discharge rates , cloud shapes, and ground distributions are presented and discussed.
