Institution National Aerospace Laboratory NLR Date 1992-07-08 Abstract Control systems for microgee experiment payloads integrated in the Columbus infrastructure will play an important role because of the highly automated nature of facility operation. To assure proper design of these type of control systems a comprehensive development methodology is mandatory. A development model allows structured and formalized development procedures for classes of control systems. A Control Development Methodology (CDM) for Automation and Robotics (A&R) systems has been proposed by ESA. Ideas to modify and expand this CDM towards a method to develop experiment payload control systems are presented in this paper. Such a Payload Control Development Model (PCDM) supports the analysis, design and implementation process of an experiment payload control system. The PCDM consists of engineering guidelines in the form of reference models, standard procedures to support design consistency and traceability, and appropriate tools.
