Institution Royal Aircraft Establishment RAE Date 1963-07-31 Abstract With the use of operator techniques a unified treatment is given of the harmonic oscillator subject to an applied force which is an arbitrary function of time. Few of the results are new, and most have appeared piecemeal in papers devoted to other topics and using a wide variety of mathematical methods. Numerical methods tor the calculation of transition probabilities are also developed, ancd some numerical results are given for cases which shed light on the correspondence principle.
