Institution National Aerospace Laboratory NLR Date 1989-12-12 Abstract The National Aerospace Laboratory NLR In the Netherlands develops simulation systems that are used by industry to evaluate product designs by means of digital simulation studies. Such systems Involve simulation models and simulation tools. The simulation models are software representations of the product that is to be evaluated. As such, the models are product dependent. Simulation tools, however, can be developed that are Independent of the product. Therefore, the development of the simulation models can benefit substantially from an environment in which the simulation models and simulation tools are Integrated, while maintaining at the same time a clear separation between the two. This enables the model developer to fully concentrate on the development of the simulation model, without feeling the need to worry about the simulation tools. For such a development environment, a concept is presented that is based on an Investigation of requirements and on a survey of existing simulation tools and models. This environment, called ISMuS, focuses on (space) multlbody systems. This becomes apparent by the choice of simulation models that are to be present in the environment. ISMuS stands for: Information System to support the development of digital simulation models for Multlbody Systems.
