Due to saline water deep in the ground and fresh water higher in the ground, there is a gradient in density in the groundwater dependent on the vertical distance below ground level. When the monowell is put into operational use, the gradient in density is disturbed and will cause additional currents. These currents influence the efficiency of the ATES systems. Using different design dimensions, the effects of the chloride variations can be studied.
