Bykov, V. Maas, U. Date 2006-09-08 Abstract The usage of detailed chemical kinetics for the mathematical modeling of combustion processes is desirable, but leads to a high computational effort. In the present work one of the methods of simplification of chemical kinetics - Intrinsic low-dimensional manifolds (ILDMs) is considered. Whereas in most CFD applications ILDMs are calculated in terms of a fixed parameterization given by, e.g., concentrations of major species, a locally adapted parameterization procedure is introduced in terms of so-called generalized coordinates. The problem of non-existence of ILDMs in parts of the domain of interest of the state space is overcome by an extention procedure based on simplified stationary solutions. These modifications improve numerical stability, performance and guarantee uniqueness of tabulated manifolds. Sample calculations of laminar flames verify the approach.
