Institution National Aerospace Laboratory NLR Date 1984-03-01 Abstract Image quality plays an important role on the various levels of image processing. However, until now it lacks a survey of methods for the evaluation of image quality. With a grant of the Netherlands Agency for Aerospace Programs (NIVR) a study was performed with respect to the quantification of image quality. Some results of this study are reflected in this report. This report is meant as a guide for the measurement of image quality in its various facets. In addition to already common approaches to image quality assessment also attention is paid to less often considered aspects of image quality like texture and edge quality.
