Maarsingh, R.A. Institution National Aerospace Laboratory NLR Date 1979-07-01 Abstract Based on comparison with results from special experiments, an evaluation has been performed of the method of Levinsky, Thommen, Yager and Holland, which is intended to calcxilate the spanwise lift distribution on wings immersed in propulsive jets. Various modifications of the original method have been investigated. It was found that the method, gives satisfactory results for an unflapped wing. However, even at a relatively small flap deflection the jet induced effects are underrated rather strongly. The discrepancies can be reduced somewhat by adopting an improved wing model. It is concluded, however, that this approach has a fundamental shortage, which must be imputed to the rigid jet model, so that bsisical features of the wing-jet interaction, like jet mixing and deformation, can not be accounted for.
