Institution National Research Council Canada, National Aeronautical Establishment, High Speed Dynamics Section Date 1968-06-30 Abstract The blast wave equations in an unsteady environment are derived. For wedge and conical nozzles it is shown th at the density has a power law vari ation with distance downstream from the throat when the loeal flow Mach number is large. The unsteady flow field behind the blast wave is solved by a perturbation technique and the sel f-similar solution of Mirels and Mullen is recovered in the first approximation. An approximate expression is given for the shock trajectory, as a function of the instantaneous energy release, the nonle geometry, and the stagnation conditions.
