Around 1661, Johannes Vermeer painted what has become one of the most famous city views: the View of Delft. The city of Delft is depicted from across the water of the River Schie. We see the city as a collection of brick buildings with lower and higher towers, peaking into the sky, and being reflected in the water of the river. The light looks...

The S. pyogenes (Sp) Cas9 endonuclease is an important gene-editing tool. SpCas9 is directed to target sites based on complementarity to a complexed single-guide RNA (sgRNA). However, SpCas9-sgRNA also binds and cleaves genomic off-targets with only partial complementarity. To date, we lack the ability to predict cleavage and binding activity...

This paper describes a new technique for finding automatically, when using multipoint excitation, the force distribution required to produee in-phase responses at the excitation points on a structure. It is shown how this technique is used to find natural frequencies and principal mode shapes. The construction of a five-channel, servo-controlled...

Methods of following, simultaneously, changes in several natural frequencies of a transiently heated structure are discussed. One method, using a multiplying technique, is discussed in some detail and the results of tests to prove the technique are presented

Experiments have been made on the wing and mid-body portion of an air-to-air missile to measure the dynamic characteristics of the wing under static load and heating. The experiments indicate that the natural frequencies of the wing are reduced by heating, and increased by static loading, the latter effect being small compared with the former.
