A catalytic, enzyme-initiated (aza-) Achmatowicz reaction is presented. The involvement of a robust vanadium-dependent peroxidase from Curvularia inaequalis allows the simple use of H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub> and catalytic amounts of bromide.
