Hybrid endurance racing subjects the High-Voltage (HV) battery to severe electro-thermal stresses, yet much of the underlying knowledge of these system dynamics remains proprietary. To address this gap, this study presents a model-based HV battery management system developed in MATLAB & Simulink around a fully coupled, state-dependent second-order Equivalent Circuit Model (ECM). The framework integrates a four-state Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) within the Battery Control Unit (BCU) for real-time tracking of State of Charge (SOC) and core temperature, paired with a Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) Model Predictive Control (MPC) strategy for active thermal management. Deployed and evaluated in a full-vehicle closed-loop co-simulation environment using IPG CarMaker, the architecture successfully maintains strict charge-sustaining behaviour and regulates battery temperatures during continuous high-power racing profiles. Overall, this coordinated management architecture enhances modelling accuracy and closed-loop control performance without introducing additional computational overload, demonstrating its effectiveness and real-time feasibility for high-performance endurance motorsport applications.
