We are living in a perfect storm of catastrophes; overpopulation, desertification, deterioration of biodiversity, and a weakened ecological system are threatening our current way of living. It is essential we look for new ways of living and building. This paper is an experimental research on how to use waste-based brick as a building material to strengthen the ecological system in the surrounding environment. The context is shortly introduced, followed by an overview of the experimenting on waste-based brick characteristics, building technology, and the composition of the material and the building process. Subsequently, experiments on the durability and liveability of the material are conducted. Lastly, a conclusion is conducted for designing with waste-based brick to maximize the ecological value of different building components. In the conclusion, I reflect on an example of waste-based brick.
