The computational modelling of fluid-structure interaction phenomena is currently gaining importance thanks to engineering design trends towards lighter and more exible structures. FSI simulations are important because they can predict potentially dangerous interaction instabilities and the performance of designs in their deformed shapes. However, the cost of such FSI simulations is currently still very high due to the fact that two coupled solvers have to be applied. Moreover, interaction problems usually require a large amount of small time steps to ensure computational stability.
