It emphasizes the importance of challenging the prevailing urban planning trends that prioritize financial gain and rigid quantification, often leading to the commodification of public spaces. Instead, the argument for a qualitative approach put out by suggested moments of architecture embraces wastefulness, unexpected moments, and the co-creation of spaces that encourage serendipity and delight. "Retreat the Line" is an appeal for architects to adopt a more all-encompassing and human-centered approach to design.
