The Influence of homo- and heterogeneous Strategies in Resource Exchange Environments on the approximation of Equilibria

Sharing economies such as BitTorrent are popular alternatives to traditional ownership. Users in these networks trade resources using different behavioral strategies. Past research has tested only a few basic behaviors. It remains unclear how networks behave when complex strategies are combined. If a platform fails to approximate an optimal state, users may become dissatisfied and leave the platform. This paper investigates how six different strategies affect the stability of decentralized exchanges across five graph topologies. We simulated pure, homogeneous, and heterogeneous networks for 400 iterations over 30 repetitions. Our results show that a homogeneous 50/50 mix of proportional and greedy strategies achieves the lowest average market loss. Introducing heterogeneous weights between agents increases this loss. Conversely, petty and imitation strategies disrupt the network. These strategies consistently produce the highest loss. Overall, homogeneous networks converge faster and perform better than heterogeneous networks. ...
