Abstract
This paper presents a framework for delineating port nautical infrastructure areas and analysing their usage patterns based on AIS data. Using heuristics, DBSCAN and K-means clustering, three key functional areas are identified (berths, anchorages, and tug-assisted turning areas), and relevant time-based indicators based on area geometries and vessel trajectory sequences are derived. The presented method, though simple and open to further development, can give detailed and comparable insights into port performance and support more effective port planning, traffic management, and operational decision-making.
