Contributor d'Angremond, K. (mentor) Massie, W.W. (mentor) Faculty Civil Engineering and Geosciences Department Hydraulic Engineering Programme Offshore Engineering Date 1990-06-01 Abstract The first report is about: A jack-up rig is a mobile offshore platform. Basically, it is a self-elevating pontoon, which can be supported by retractable legs resting on the sea bed. Recently, it is proposed to use these platforms for production of marginal fields, what implies a longer term use. Furthermore, there are plans to use such platforms in deeper water. For design calculations and for checking whether the rig can be used on a new location, it is necessary to know the horizontal wave forces acting on the leg. Since the jack-up leg consists of many bars, direct wave force calculations are time consuming. Therefore, a schematization is required. The second report is about: The calculated and measured drag and inertia coefficients for a complete jack-up leg bay at high Reynolds numbers (0.5-1.2 * 10e).
