Abstract

Electrical motors have been widely used in various fields for hundreds of years. The asynchronous motor is always an interesting topic due to its advantage of the simple structure, robustness, low maintenance cost and long lifetime. In this research, a special structure rotor is used instead of the classical squirrel cage rotor. To understand the asynchronous motor behaviour and improve the motor performance, an analytical model is developed in MathCAD and a simulation model with finite element method is built in ANSYS. The research problem is solved successfully by eliminating certain space harmonics with proper winding distribution design. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified via both modelling and simulation. In the end, a well-performing prototype is made and the test results are aligned with the results from the developed analytical model.
