In the dredging industry, the automation and accuracy of the Dredging Perception System (DPS) are vital for operational efficiency and environmental safety. Current DPS implementations face challenges with sensor fault tolerance, leading to system unreliability and increased false alarm rates that can disrupt dredging operations. We propose a Hybrid Redundancy Sensor Fault Tolerance (HRSFT) strategy that integrates matching physical sensors (PS) with two distinct types of virtual sensors (VS) driven by multi-sensor association and time-series prediction models. The HRSFT employs a voting-cold storage strategy to address the false alarm issues commonly associated with single virtual sensor systems. Through experimental validation, the HRSFT strategy has demonstrated its capability to provide accurate replacement information during both single and multi-sensor failure scenarios, effectively managing abnormal sensor data and enhancing the operational reliability of the DPS. The implementation of the HRSFT strategy significantly improves the accuracy and stability of the DPS, suggesting a substantial advancement in sensor fault tolerance that could be applied to similar systems in various industries, leading to safer and more reliable operations.@en

Aiming at modelling the mechanical behaviour of soil-rock mixtures accurately and efficiently, a coupled MPM-DEM formulation combining the material point method (MPM) and the discrete element method (DEM) is proposed. It is solved concurrently via the contact force linking the two individual methods. Specifically, the soil is modelled with MPM as continuums to avoid handling the contacts between fine particles. The rocks are modelled by DEM to capture the contact characteristics of rocks. This method is validated with ball impacting and block sliding tests first for the contact between material points and DEM particles. Its capability in describing the mechanics of soil-rock mixtures is thereafter proved by comparing the simulation results with pure DEM simulations of binary mixtures and laboratory tests of soil-rock mixtures. It is demonstrated that MPM-DEM can reproduce the stress–strain response of soil-rock mixtures and capture the influence of rock contents and rock sizes. In addition, a coarse-graining modelling scheme is implemented, i.e., representing the soil particles with fewer material points, which significantly increases the efficiency compared with pure DEM. Our proposed method provides a novel way to model soil-rock mixtures with reasonable computational efforts, which sheds light on simulating large-scale soil-rock mixtures in nature or engineering.@en

In this paper, a meshfree method called adaptive CTM–RPIM is developed to model geotechnical problems with large deformation. The developed adaptive CTM–RPIM is a combination of the Cartesian transformation method (CTM), the radial point interpolation method (RPIM) and the alpha shape method. To reduce the requirement for meshes, the CTM is adopted to transform domain integrals into line integrals, and the RPIM is applied to construct interpolation functions. The alpha shape method, which is capable of capturing severe boundary evolution due to large deformations, is then introduced into the CTM–RPIM to form the adaptive CTM–RPIM. The accuracy of CTM–RPIM is first verified by considering a cantilever beam under small deformation, where the influence of key parameters on the simulation results is explored. Afterward, the ability of the adaptive CTM–RPIM to handle large deformation problems is demonstrated by simulating cantilever beams with large deformations for which analytical solutions are available. Finally, the ability of the proposed method to model the geotechnical large deformations is illustrated from both quasi-static and dynamic aspects, where a slope failure problem and a footing bearing capacity problem are modeled to evaluate the stability of geotechnical structures; and a 2-D soil collapse experiment using small aluminum bars is simulated to show the method capability in describing the soil flows. These benchmark examples demonstrate that the adaptive CTM–RPIM is a numerical method with broad application prospects for modeling large deformation problems in geotechnical engineering.@en

In our case studies, the success of subsalt exploration and development wells depended heavily on the characterization of highly heterogeneous lacustrine microbial carbonates. Acoustic and elastic inversions have proved to be a good proxy for identification of reservoir quality variation for exploration and development well placements. However, qualitative and quantitative usage of subsalt seismic amplitudes requires proper illumination and good signal-to-noise ratio. If properly imaged, mode-converted reflections and interbed multiples can be complementary to the P-wave image. But, in conventional P-wave-oriented imaging, both types of events cannot be imaged correctly. They appear as coherent noise and negatively impact the overall exploration and development project outcomes, especially in areas with poor illumination. This paper consists of two parts: first, we investigate the potential problems resulting from converted waves and interbed multiples in data from two different basins - the Gulf of Mexico and the Campos Basin in offshore Brazil - and show our approach to attenuate them to reveal the true structures. The second part focuses on advanced identification of interbed multiples in modeling and migration methods. To facilitate the various strategies to attenuate interbed multiples, "interpretation"of the various events plays a significant role. Vertical seismic profile (VSP) data are excellent for the purpose; however, these data are only available at well locations, if they are recorded. As a result of many years of technology advancement, pseudo VSP data can be constructed effectively from standard streamer survey data. Two methods are highlighted in this paper for building pseudo VSP data in a full two-way sense, based on a typical Brazil-type salt model: Marchenko-based processing and full-wavefield migration. Major subsalt plays in the Gulf of Mexico and emerging plays in Brazil should benefit significantly from elimination of these kinds of coherent noise. @en
