Clustering Dispersed Industrial Demand
Integration into the Dutch Hydrogen Backbone
The development of the Dutch hydrogen backbone creates opportunities for industrial decarbonisation, but many geographically dispersed Cluster 6 companies are not directly included in the planned network. This thesis investigates how spatial clustering of dispersed industrial hydrogen demand affects hydrogen transport infrastructure design and cost. The study combines company-level hydrogen demand estimates with k-means clustering and network optimisation using the Optimal Network Layout Tool (ONLT). Different clustering configurations are compared to evaluate the trade-off between internal pipeline distances and the number of required connections to the national hydrogen backbone
