Building construction is a complex industry. A wide range of requirement should be achieved within the limited resources by a multidisciplinary team. Hence, errors are likely to occur, and the accumulation of individual mistakes might lead to building failure. Even though construction is tightly regulated, failure of the modern date buildings still happened. As a part of the investment, safety measures need to be applied to prevent failure. Engineers often neglect the safety measure because its efficiency regarding risk reduction and the financial matter is not known. To examine the effectiveness of measures, this thesis is carried out by learning from ten cases of both collapse and near-collapse situation. A quantitative approach is taken for this thesis.
