This research explores how architectural interventions can foster urban resilience in post-disaster contexts, focusing on the Uzun Çarşı in Antakya after the 2023 Türkiye earthquake. Through fieldwork, discourse analysis, and ethnographic methods, the study examines how materiality, collective memory, and community agency drive recovery processes. Uzun Çarşı, despite severe destruction, demonstrated resilience through community-led spatial adaptation and the reactivation of everyday practices. The study proposes a community-driven reconstruction of a spice market, utilizing rubble as memory anchors and emphasizing participatory building processes. Rather than restoring a pre-disaster state, the design embraces transformation and continuity, highlighting resilience as an ongoing, dynamic process rooted in social, material, and spatial relations.

The research focuses on the estate zone of the Baakse Beek region which is facing environmental problems mainly caused by historical human intervention and climate change. Besides, in the Vorden cluster, as the land use changing caused by intense land reclamation and consolidation, the current agriculture productive landscape makes it not easy to perceive the rich historical layers.
The main research method of this study is research by design and the main goal is to explore the potential of forest landscape restoration to increase the resilience of the estate landscape in the face of climate change and to promote their cultural-historical values and identity. By restoring forest landscape, it provides a green infrastructure to the estate zone to gain more spatial experience, ecological benefits, as well as cultural value, so that vulnerable aquatic eco-environment and cultural identity can be promoted.
The research aims to design a climate-adaptive estate landscape as a green infrastructure that connects the estates, local history, ecology value and societal value through forest landscape restoration. This thesis primarily focuses on the territory of two estates, Het Medler and De Wiersse, where ecological restoration of the aquatic eco-system and cultural-historical landscape experience can be strengthened utilizing forest landscape restoration.

The preservation and restoration of intricate stucco ornaments, which are part of our collect cultural Heritage, is under threat due to a diminishing number of skilled restoration plasterers. The highly physically demanding- and labour intensive nature of this work makes it unsustainable for the human body and advocates for a more sustainable alternative restoration method for the future. Digital Fabrication has the potential to offer such an alternative method. While 3D scanning, digital repair and 3D printing are all proven technologies, stucco ornament restoration often requires an on site fabrication solution directly onto a ceiling or wall due to the brittle nature of prefab stucco elements. The research explores how an in-situ 3D printing technique can be developed for the restoration of stucco ornaments by focussing on three main topics: 1) developing gypsum-based 3D printing materials, which are compatible to gypsum ceilings and comply with criteria for extrusion based 3D printing; 2) Designing and prototyping 3D printing tools including an extruder and material delivery system; 3) Conceptualizing a Restoration Robot Platform with which the developed printing material can be used with the developed 3D printing tools, for on site stucco ornament restoration. The insights gained from the development of the printing material and printing process are integrated into digital fabrication software used in practise, through a proposed plug-in and workflow.

For present-day drilling operations in deep and challenging well sections, a technology called casing while drilling can be used. It involves isolating and ‘casing’ a formation while drilling, where the casing itself is used as the drill pipe, which is cemented in after a certain depth is reached. By doing this, the need for separate casing runs will be eliminated and well stability is improved. The concept has become increasingly popular since the beginning of the 21st century, due to an increase in technical possibilities and use of this technique, which makes it more profitable.
To enlarge a wellbore past its original drilled size, to enable lowering of the casing, an underreamer is used. Under reaming can be performed in a reaming while drilling (RWD) configuration. To perform these operations, the bottom-hole assembly (BHA) containing the underreamer is lowered in the casing string to a depth just below the casing shoe. Afterwards, drilling fluids are used to fill the casing and pumps will be engaged to drive a hydraulic piston in the underreamer assembly that opens the cutter blades. Hydraulic pressure is used to fold the blades outward and prohibits closure of the tool.
The width of the reamed borehole is not only determined by the outer diameter of the casing couplings that have to fit thru, but there also has to be a clearance for the drilling mud. The annular space between the borehole and casing is relatively small which causes relatively high friction losses during current operation. Because of this, the dynamic pressure loss of the drilling fluid along the outside of the casing becomes too high. To lower the pressure, the borehole needs to be enlarged further than possible with underreamers currently available. There are also limitations on the length of the underreamer. From tests carried out by Huisman, it is found that an increase in length has adverse effects on the steering behaviour of the BHA. Therefore, the length of the reamer should be kept at a minimum.
The DRILLSTAR Z600H design that is currently being used does not allow for a diameter enlargement. New concepts must be devised to enable this. A solution to this problem can provide Huisman Well Technology (HWT) with the opportunity to perform the drilling of more and deeper wells.
A solution to the problem was found by splitting the piston and spring internally. This enabled the spring to be placed in the top part of the underreamer while the piston remains in the lower part. The blocks are located in the middle and fold out eccentrically to reach a hole diameter of 228.6 mm (9 inch). The angle under which the blocks fold out has been reduced from 60 degrees to 45 degrees to allow the underreamer to be shorter by 66 mm.
