Collaborative Port Call Optimization (PCO) is a key strategy to improve port efficiency. This study aims to bridge existing research gaps by providing a holistic understanding of collaborative PCO adoption, emphasizing the complexities of multi-organization collaboration and the influence of emerging technologies within the nautical chain and Port Governance structures. The TOEI framework, a novel conceptual model that extends the Technological Organizational-Environmental (TOE) framework, offers a valuable tool for port authorities and operators, providing specific insights and recommendations to enhance port call processes collaboratively. The study targets not only academics but also policymakers, port authorities, and nautical service providers. The findings discovered through the empirical analysis and the development of the TOE framework provide valuable insights for ports seeking to enhance their port calls collaboratively, laying the groundwork for future research, encouraging further exploration of specific contextual factors, in-depth case studies, and the development of tailored strategies for diverse ports globally.

Port performance is under pressure due to high congestion levels and a need to reduce GHG emissions. The industry is looking for ways to increase efficiency in ports. A promising concept is known as port call optimization where waiting times and turn-around times can be reduced. This research contributes to the body of port call optimization literature by identifying the importance of performance attributes for innovations. Identifying the performance attributes and how stakeholders weight these has never been explored before in literature. The relative importance has been derived using the Bayesian Best-Worst Method. The performance attributes: incidents, near misses, robustness and added value, are most important for evaluating an innovation for port call management. Results on micro level show heterogeneity and homogeneity in preferences for port attributes. Both ports with complex nautical restrictions prefer performance attributes related to safety. The port with centralised management is more commercially driven and there is homogeneity within a port. Furthermore, heterogeneity is seen between stakeholder groups and between port authority (PA). PAs from centralised port value attributes relatively different than a PA with decentralised and licensing activities. Some differences and similarities can be explained by the port contexts. The findings can be used for the design of innovations in port call management. Research could be repeated in other port cases to validate the significance of these results.

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is considered an essential solution to reaching climate goals. The two main identified transport modes in CCS, pipelines and ships, are widely compared to each other in the literature. This research contributes to the literature about the evaluation of transportation modes in CCS chains, by determining to what extent electrified ships can play a role in CCS. This is not studied before. This research is executed by following the Systems Engineering approach, in particular the SIMIE process. In a proposed point-to-point network for onshore transportation, mainly general diesel-propelled barges would perform with the lowest costs per ton, whereby the distance ranges from 25 km up to 250 km. As longer the distances, more Tank-to-Wheel (TTW) emissions savings could be obtained if barge transport is electrified. Identifying the most accurate emissions reporting method and performing operational validation for modelling the transport modes and trajectories could provide the obtained results with more scientific and practical robustness.
