Understanding the bond behavior between reinforcement and concrete under varying confinement conditions is essential for the design and performance assessment of reinforced concrete structures. This study employs a discrete lattice model to investigate the reinforcement-concrete bond mechanism, focusing on crack propagation, fracture processes, and stress distribution. Experimental data involving lap-spliced reinforcement bond test under different confinement conditions serve as benchmarks. In the model, concrete, reinforcement, and their interface are discretized into beam elements, while the interface properties remain constant and independent of confinement conditions. A key finding is that generating the lattice mesh through the Delaunay triangulation scheme enables the model to reproduce realistic strut-cracking patterns and conical stress transfer phenomena, thereby capturing stirrup-induced passive confinement effects without modifying interface properties. The results clarify the role of stirrup confinement in restricting concrete dilatancy and bond splitting, while bond failure is shown to depend on concrete fracture under weak confinement and on interface failure only under strong confinement. Overall, this study not only validates the discrete lattice approach for reinforced concrete bond modeling but also provides deeper insights into lap-splice failure mechanisms, offering a robust framework for structural assessment and design.

This article presents a reconfigurable piezoelectric harvester array (RPA) designed for multi-input systems, which dynamically configures its structure based on the intensity of ambient vibrations. The proposed architecture enhances system efficiency by eliminating dc–dc converters and achieving maximum power point tracking through a single power stage. It also widens the input range by serially connecting PEH units, enabling operation at lower excitation levels. Additionally, this series connection reduces equivalent parasitic capacitance, improving flip efficiency and maximum output power improving rate (MOPIR).The proposed RPA is employed with classical parallel-synchronous switch harvesting on inductor technology and implemented using a 180 nm CMOS process. Experimental results demonstrate a conversion efficiency of up to 78%, an MOPIR of 5.93, and a minimum input voltage of 0.36 V. This highly integrated, wide-input-range, and energy-efficient scheme offers a novel approach to miniaturizing PEH systems. We present detailed design principles, operational mechanisms, and performance metrics, highlighting the RPA’s potential as a scalable and environmentally friendly solution for powering next-generation Internet of Thing devices.

This paper presents a monolithic single-stage, 4-phase switched-capacitor (SC) hybrid boost converter with 11-to- 20× voltage conversion ratios (VCRs). The 4-phase operating SC hybrid topology is proposed to achieve high VCRs with only three flying capacitors and one inductor. With the SC topology, the average inductor current and the inductor current ripple are much reduced, releasing both power loss and size requirement for the inductor. A four-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) controller is proposed. A successive ramp generation scheme ensures identical pulse widths across three consecutive phases. A driver-assisted auxiliary charge pump provides sufficient driving voltages for the high-side driver and simplifies the overall circuitry. The proposed hybrid boost converter was implemented in a 0.18 μm process. The measurement results show that the converter achieved a 20-24V output voltage range with a 1.2-1.8 V input voltage. 76.7%

This article presents a 10mV-startup-voltage thermoelectric energy harvesting system, assisted by a piezoelectric generator (PEG) as a cold starter. It exploits the fact that when a thermoelectric energy harvesting system is implemented in a place where kinetic energy is also present, the PEG starter can provide a clock signal to start the system. Thanks to the high output impedance of the PEG, the generated clock voltage can easily go over several hundreds of mV, which can be used to drive the boost converter to harvest thermoelectric energy even at an extremely low thermoelectric generator (TEG) voltage. The proposed system was fabricated in a 180-nm BCD process. The measurement results show that the TEG system can start up from the cold state with a TEG voltage as low as 10 mV while maintaining a 63.9% efficiency. The peak power conversion efficiency reaches 83.7% when the TEG voltage is 55 mV.

This article proposes a novel collaborative-flip synchronized switch harvesting on capacitors (CF-SSHCs) rectifier and multioutput synchronous dc-dc converters with shared capacitors. Compared to the traditional SSHC, our CF-SSHC rectifier can increase the number of flipping phases, potentially enhancing the flipping efficiency and output power under specific conditions where C FLY is close to C_P. The synchronous dc-dc converters reuse the flying capacitors to achieve a high maximum output power improving rate (MOPIR) over a limited input power range and provide multiple outputs. This work achieves an advanced number of flipping phases in capacitor-based rectifier interface technology and explores multiple-input multiple-output configurations, evaluating the system's performance under periodic and shock conditions for the first time. The system's adaptability to various piezoelectric transducer (PT) array configurations is validated, highlighting its potential for Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The design is fabricated in standard 0.18- μ m CMOS. Measurement results demonstrate that the voltage flipping efficiency of up to 83% is achieved. Compared with full-bridge rectifier (FBR), the MOPIR can be increased to 5.06 × and 4.78 × under off-resonance and on-resonance excitation, respectively. It can also achieve a 2.14 × power enhancement under shock excitation. Additionally, when the input power P INFBR is in the range of 1.42-28.4 μ W, the MOPIR of the proposed system is always greater than 4.
