At the beginning of 2023, the collective Dutch universities, represented by UNL (“Universiteiten van Nederland”, an association of universities in the Netherlands), commissioned a project to explore knowledge sharing about the past, present, and future of Dutch university campuses (Campus NL). The focus of this four-year project is on campus management: supporting decisions regarding land, buildings, and other facilities of Dutch universities.

Project Campus NL (2023-2027) aims to consolidate the knowledge and experience of the 14 Dutch universities, integrating these with scientific insights from international contexts and other sectors. The overarching objective is to collaboratively address contemporary campus challenges, including innovation, sustainability, digitalization, affordability, inspiration, health and safety - and to organize campus management within each university more effectively and efficiently.

This annual report presents the outcomes of the second year (2024–2025) of the Campus NL research program. While the first year of the four-year Campus NL research project focused on “hybrid working”, the second year had “education / learning environments” as the central theme. This report contains (A) campus data, (B) campus trends, (C) campus elsewhere and (D) campus learning, focusing on spaces for education. Inmiddels is het bijna dertien jaar geleden dat de Faculteit Bouwkunde in september 2008 intrek nam in het grote en labyrintische, op dat moment leegstaande gebouw van de Technische Universiteit Delft aan de Julianalaan. De alles verwoestende brand van het faculteitsgebouw aan de Berlageweg in mei van dat jaar had een grote schok veroorzaakt onder alle medewerkers en studenten, en niet minder onder oud-collega’s en alumni. Tegelijkertijd kwam al vanaf de dag na de brand een buitengewone energie en daadkracht vrij, waar nog vaak aan gerefereerd wordt. Als tijdelijke oplossing voor de komende jaren werd met man en macht een plan gemaakt en uitgevoerd om het gebouw, wat bij velen bekend stond als het voormalige hoofdgebouw maar dat ooit ontworpen en gebouwd was als Scheikunde afdeling, geschikt te maken om de Faculteit Bouwkunde te huisvesten.... ... The relationship between (technology) campuses and cities was a central theme in Flavia Curvelo Magdaniel’s doctoral research, which was defended and published in September 2016. During her PhD study she collected data of thirty-nine technology campuses, which has been considered worth a spin-off publication. This publication contains descriptions of 39 international cases that accommodate tech-based research activities. These case descriptions (in part B) are introduced with background information about concepts and methods (in part A) and reflected upon in conclusions and recommendations (in part C). This book presents a huge number of contributions on corporate and public real estate management, urban development management, design and construction management and housing. These topics correspond with the names of the four sections of the Department of Management in the Built Environment at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TU Delft, the Netherlands. The book is a Liber Amicorum for prof. Hans de Jonge to mark his farewell as professor of real estate management and development. Due to the special role Hans de Jonge has had for over 25 years in our department the book includes many other contributions as well, from his former and current PhD candidates, university managers, and academic and professional colleagues from inside and outside the faculty. It offers a diversity of words of praise, personal memories, solid pieces of academic work, and reflections on the present, past and future of real estate management and development. As such the book presents a very interesting story of twenty five years of teaching and conducting research being started, guided and/or influenced by Hans de Jonge. It shows the contribution that Hans, his team and others have made to the growing body of knowledge on how to match the demand and supply of real estate and how to contribute to an efficient and effective building stock that evokes interesting experiences. ...
