Base on the preliminary research results, the design goal of this project is defined: Providing departing, arriving and transferring travellers a seamless experience, which makes them feel confident and relaxed during the whole process of their journey in Schiphol, including wayfinding, searching information, learning of the Dutch transport system,
check-in and even passing border control, Etc. This can be achieved by facilitating the Schiphol information providing and wayfinding to help travellers understand the Schiphol service, wayfinding and transportation system and meet all their varying needs. The emphasis of this project is not to improve the Schiphol's service system or add new service in Schiphol, but to help travellers understand and utilize Schiphol's current service system by building a new efficient app information architecture and AR navigation system.

This project explores which information structure is more suitable for Schiphol (Public transport system). Through continuous testing and iteration, the information architecture of the new Schiphol app is confirmed, which would combine with the liner pattern and Hub and spoke information structure to build the underlying information architecture of the app. Choosing the Hub and spoke as the primary parent pattern and applying liner pattern for subsections.

In the user testing phase, it was discovered that functionality, ease of learning, and fun are all essential factors that affect user performance with the new Schiphol app. The focus of the second iteration is to ensure that users can understand and use the app. Make the layout of each interface and visual elements of the app more familiar to all users. The third iteration mainly focuses on the ease of use and fun of the new app. More attractive visual elements and dynamic effects are added to enhance the app's interest. After three rounds of testing, the new Schiphol app can meet the needs of all participants and combines functionality and fun.

Overall, the new app can help travellers quickly obtain the information they need and learn about Schiphol (Schiphol wayfinding system, Schiphol service system, Dutch public transportation system). At present, only about one per cent of passengers will download the Schiphol app in advance, so how to help them realize this app and download it is still an issue that Schiphol needs to consider in the future.

In order to realize sustainable customer growth, a company could adopt different strategies: opening up a new market, developing new products, etc. Based on the SWOT analysis, No Label is small and lacking capital, while its main target group (middle-class men, aged 25-45) is growing rapidly. Thus, No Label’s biggest opportunity lies in focusing on the current market and attract more potential customers within the market. After several interviews with its potential customers, the designer found the main challenge for converting its potential customers to real customers is that those people don’t hold a strong belief that No Label is a “relevant brand” and “My kind of product”. The believes that the brand is relevant could result in higher brand loyalty and positive responses to brand-driven activities such as their willingness to pay a premium price, keep purchasing the same brand, adopt new products and so on. This project focuses on leveraging branding and design to elicit the belief of "relevant brand" and "My kind of product", thus converting potential customers of No Lable.

This project is executed on behalf of House of Denim; a non-profit organisation that wants to work towards a more sustainable, innovative and collaborative denim industry. Due to the fast-fashion phenomenon and our linear economic model, there is a growing demand for and pressure on cotton. This, combined with the increasing amount of clothes that are discarded and collected, asks for a systemic change: to work towards a more circular system. Since Amsterdam is internationally known as the jeans capital of Europe, the Dutch government wants to strive towards a circular denim industry in the Netherlands and involved House of Denim to work towards this goal. Increasing the use of post-consumer recycled cotton in denim production is defined as the first step. Increasing the use of recycled cotton in denim production is a complex systemic challenge. Designing for this challenge, asks for a systemic and holistic approach to be able to have a deep understanding of the current system and its complexity. Therefore this project is executed with a relatively new design approach: Systems Oriented Design (SOD). The project can serve as an example in incorporating systemic ways of designing in an educational programme. The main research question in this project is defined as: How can the demand for post-consumer recycled cotton in jeans production, started from within the Netherlands, be increased by triggering the key actor(s) or interaction(s) within the cycle? The research consisted mainly of interviews with experts of different parts of the value chain. By getting to know the different points of view, knowledge about the difficulties in producing and using PCR cotton, the role of all actors and the relations between the actors is gained. Three key problems are defined. 1. Brands have a negative perception of PCR denim. They perceive it as difficult, expensive and low quality fabric. 2. In order to work with PCR cotton, individual brands are given a complicated logistical challenge that results in a time consuming and expensive process. 3. The use of PCR fabric is not adopted as a common practice due to the lacking supply and demand of the fabric. Recycled denim products are not conventional in the shops and consumers do not actively demand it. The concept presented in this project is the Dutch Denim Programme. 
The Dutch Denim Programme is a collaborative and action-oriented program to work towards a Bright Blue loop: a circular denim industry in the Netherlands. The Dutch Denim Programme (DDP) helps brands to raise the demand for recycled cotton by stimulating them and facilitating a collaborative value chain. By setting up the network and initiating the material flow, the DDP will push participants to develop new recycled denim fabrics. Besides that, the DDP will launch the Bright Blue Loop label: a label for denim fabrics and products that contain 20% Dutch recycled cotton. By showing a joint effort, the industry can push the government to incentivize the use of recycled cotton. If the key-actors would participate in the Dutch Denim Programme, House of Denim would be able to realize a growth in the use of recycled cotton in denim production, which would reduce the environmental impact of the highly polluting denim industry.

This graduation project focuses on balancing entertainment and social value of football to create relatedness and belonging among the younger supporters in Arnhem and Vitesse. Relatedness and belonging are two of the thirteen fundamental needs defined by Desmet and Fokkinga (2018). Designing for fundamental needs is one of the eight approaches to emotional design.
The projectThe social function football used to provide was what sociologists call “socialization”: the modification of the child’s behavior as they mature, and their assimilation into a grown-up world through customs, rituals and more (Tempany, 2014). According to Tempany, football has never been safer, better televises or more entertaining. Moreover, it has never been this individual and less about the culture of the people who shaped the football clubs (Tempany, 2014). Sports industry leaders cite the shift in consumer behavior of younger generations as the ‘top threat faced by the industry’ (PwC, 2018).Dutch football clubs are in search of new possibilities to involve and renew the connection with the younger generations of supporters. Vitesse is one of the football clubs that undergo difficulties to connect with younger supporters (age twelve (12) to sixteen (16)). Vitesse wants to play a more prominent role in the life of the younger supporters. In doing so, Vitesse is searching for answers to how they can (re)connect with the younger supporters.
Research and design aimDuring the analysis phase, a user study is done to understand how the younger supporters of Vitesse fulfill their fundamental needs within the context of football. The second objective is to find out whether the fulfillment of their fundamental needs differs from older generations. The study aims to identify elements that affect the fundamental needs defined by Desmet and Fokkingga (2018) to find which needs affect the emotional bond with Vitesse subsequently. The main insight derived from the user study is; the younger supporter of Vitesse supports Vitesse in their own since most of their peers support other football clubs. While the need to support collectively is present. They get in contact with their peers mainly through Fifa and other digital channels; fulfilling their need for belonging and relatedness and creating a more significant distance between them and Vitesse. This led to the aim to design an activity between fellow supporters and peers that allows them to grow social relationships, where the activity is guided and organized by Vitesse and its football players.
Vitesse Buiten Spel‘Vitesse Buiten Spel’ is a game platform based on football battles that allow the younger supporters to play football against and with each other at different places throughout Arnhem. The concept lifts playing football outside to a higher level by providing battles that are guided and demonstrated by the team of Vitesse and linked to specific places in Arnhem, aiming to achieve a positive social impact in Arnhem. The game is built-up in four elements that form a connection between the users, Arnhem and Vitesse to create a sense of belonging and relatedness. These elements are; (1) Who - Peers, (2) What - Play & Discover, (3) Where - Arnhem, (4) How - Game. An app is developed to connect the four elements creating a connection between the game platform and the real world.
Although the fulfillment of relatedness and belonging is difficult to assess, the user evaluation with children between the ages of twelve to sixteen years old in Arnhem reveals that ‘Buiten Spel’ helps to connect them to fellow peers and supporters. Moreover, the evaluation shows that the concept allows them to grow social relationships, stimulating them to be more involved with Vitesse while taking playing outside to a higher level.

How does a micro SME communicate their way of working and experience to new team members?
Every person at the company has about 20 years of experience in various companies. This does not only reflect in each person’s way of working, but also in the language and tools they use. These small differences accumulate into a range of different ways of working.
But for the company to successfully grow, a common way of working needs to be established and communicated effectively to incoming members.
This project attempted to capture and structure the knowledge within the company.

Ethnically diverse neighbourhoods often lack in social cohesion. This means that people of different ethnic backgrounds often do not mingle with people outside their cultural circle, which leads into a poor public social experience. PhD student Francisco Xavier Fonseca has been developing a localized mobile game aimed at teenagers called Secrets of the South to fix this. The aim of this game is to improve social cohesion in ethnically diverse neighbourhoods by having players spend more time in public spaces while completing game challenges. This graduation project aims to create content for Secrets of the South to foster social interaction in ethnically diverse neighbourhoods.

In the past 40 years, an incomprehensible 8,3 billion metric tons of plastic has been produced and is primarily being discarded and incinerated, instead of being recycled. Only 10 per cent of this total amount has been recycled to date, therefore it was decided to focus on recycling of plastic waste to reduce plastic pollution which negatively impacts life on a global scale. Through an extensive analysis of the recycling context it was found that the biggest problem in plastic recycling is the inability to achieve a constant production of high-quality recyclate. With insufficient knowledge to address this found problem, it was decided to do an internship at Polytential BV, a start-up company located in Delft, the Netherlands. Their innovative product the Virtual Chemist, a device that analyses the composition of plastic waste up to 98,5 per cent accuracy, enables mechanical recyclers and compounders to analyse large volumes of plastic waste.
The solution will facilitate a transition towards a data-driven recycling industry, increasing profitability in processing plastic waste by providing the industry with accurate and representative composition data, as processing large volumes is currently not possible. However, The Virtual Chemist was still in an early development stage (MVP) and required further development to be presented to clients as a sellable product (MMP). This was done by addressing the user needs and facilitating the right user experience, achieved through an analysis of the context, user, current system, and workflow to define a baseline for this project. Additionally, each step was completed by focussing on the user interaction and experience. The analysis results were used to formulate a design brief, which defined the goal and direction for the ideation and conceptualisation of the product. This report presents a summary of the completed design process, research findings, and concludes with recommendations that focus on further development of the Virtual Chemist.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the Netherlands. Since 1989, every two years, Het Rijksinstituut van Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM) organizes a breast cancer screening for women between 50 and 75 years old. The Dutch government organizes the screening because the advantages at the general population level are considered higher than the potential disadvantages. Over the last years, the policy of RIVM considering the screening was mostly focused on the interests of the public as a
whole. On a citizen level the advantages do not necessarily outweigh the disadvantages (e.g., over-diagnosis, false positives, false negatives) [1]. Recently, RIVM introduced a more responsible role towards the public in its policy. RIVM is adopting a more individually centred approach, taking into account more personal and citizen-level factors, and supporting women with informed decision-making. However, research made RIVM aware of the fact that (1) not all women do make well-informed choices yet and (2) women have a very positive attitude towards the screening [2]. It seems that the new goals ask for another communication strategy. This project addressed the challenge: “how can women be supported in making a well-informed decision whether they want to participate or not in the organized breast cancer screening?”

Research
A user-centred design research is carried out, in which a diverse group of women was included regarding ethnicity and literacy. Besides that, a broad, specified context study is conducted to explore solution space.

Decision-making
In the current communication strategy, only risk numbers are communicated. This strategy is based on the rational decision-maker’s perspective, who has the capabilities and motivation to understand and to interpret the risk information [3]. However, it is often experienced as ‘jargon’ and ‘difficult to understand’. Literature research showes that, besides ‘accurate information’ also the elements ‘freedom of choice’ and ‘awareness of personal values’ are essential for a well-informed decision [3]. The user-centred research of this project showes that women do not make a well-informed decision and, perhaps more importantly, are not supported to do so. A noteworthy thing is that women receive a regular envelope when entering the program at the age of 50. The envelope includes the information and invitation at the same time.

Besides this, women do not only base their decision on the rational models. Beliefs also seem to influence women’s decision-making process [3]. The inspirational research of this project showes that women are also aware of different meanings that are associated with the screening, such as: menopause, aging, uncertainty of life and bodily changes. These meanings play a role in the decision- making process. The current communication material does not give attention to all essential elements for well-informed choices, and moreover to the other meanings. Inspirational research showes that another communication focus might be just as effective: emotions as a source of information [4]. If RIVM showes more empathy to women’s perspectives and communicates in a common language instead of ‘jargon’ (quantitative information about risks), emotion could be used as an effective source for informing and for emphasizing the other essential elements.

Design concept
A periodic intervention of 3 magazines between the age of 49 and 50 is designed, which should activate and guide the decision-making process (see figure 3). The magazines offer women’s stories which represents (1) living scenario’s, (2) different choice options and (3)
different motivations for decisions. The women’s stories create:

A. the possibility to emphasize the 3 essential elements for a well- informed choice
B. space to show empathy to women’s interests and concerns, regarding menopause, aging and uncertainty in an inspiring and sensitive way.

After the third magazine, the woman will receive the first invitation. Whether the design concept realizes a well-informed decision-making on the long-term needs to be further tested as is recommended RIVM. Although, the concept test revealed that the magazine gives the possibility to emphasize ‘communicating on an emotional level’.

In 2016, Ford revealed its innovative concept 'Autolivery'. Nevertheless, the exact deployment conditions for the 'Autolivery' are not yet in place. In order to inhibit the collision space towards future implementation, a 'mobile locker' concept will come first, as seen in a roadmap. In this report, the potential of the 'mobile locker' service in the rapidly growing Chinese delivery market will be presented.

In the past few decades, there has been an ongoing shift from work organised around individual jobs to team-based structures (Hansen, 2006; Edmondson et al., 2007; Bell et al., 2012). Teams can offer “greater adaptability, productivity, and creativity than any one individual can offer and provide more complex, innovative, and comprehensive solutions to organisational problems” (Salas et al., 2005). Also in design projects, complexity has increased and time to market decreased. Only teamwork allows companies to deal with the required efficiency and the increasing number of parallel activities. As the designers of tomorrow, it is therefore essential for design students to become comfortable with working in teams, and to learn how to effectively work in these teams.

The central aim of this project was to research how design students can learn about teamwork. To answer this research question, an extensive literature review was done on the topics of teamwork, learning, and reflection. Furthermore, empirical research has been conducted, with research methods including interviews, pilot studies, generative sessions, and observation. The majority of the empirical research was conducted at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology.

Literature combined with the findings from the empirical research suggests that students should develop situational awareness and learn to be adaptive in teams. To achieve this, the student should be educated throughout the curriculum on competences and skills in the areas of cooperation, coordination, communication, and self-awareness.

Throughout the project is became clear that reflection was the means to turn teamwork experiences into valuable learning experiences. Various tools that facilitate reflection on teamwork within group design projects were designed and validated. Besides designing effective reflective exercises, two other challenges were identified to achieve meaningful reflection on teamwork: creating an emotionally supportive environment and boosting students’ motivation for doing the reflection.

This project resulted in a product-service system Team Track. Team Track contains of a framework and three corresponding tools. The Team Track framework proposes a setup of a course in which students learn about teamwork, while doing a group design project. The framework can be used by course coordinators to embed teamwork education in their course. The key learning activities proposed by the framework are three facilitated workshops in which the student reflects on teamwork experiences and sets teamwork-related goals for the future. In between the workshop, the student completes modules that offer teamwork theory.

The three Team Track tools support the learning activities proposed by the framework. The Team Bricks are a dynamic and physical representation of the team’s reflections and goals. The team’s personalised Course Calendar contains daily exercises that students have to complete. The online platform has multiple purposes: if offers a database with teamwork theory modules; students have their personal page on which their teamwork-related insights are captured; the student sets teamwork-related goals for himself, which are monitored through the platform.

Finally, the framework and tools have been evaluated with experts on both teamwork and education. However, to fully validate the effectiveness, Team Track should be tested within a real life group design project.
